Our Story

Thirty years of building sukkahs.
Now we’re giving them away.

In the late 1980s, a rabbi asked my uncle for a favor: could he design a simple sukkah kit for members of the community who wanted a sukkah but had no experience building things? That favor became The Sukkah Project®.

Thirty years later, our kits have helped thousands of families, schools, and congregations celebrate Sukkot. But the part we’re proudest of has never been the business. Over three decades, people reached out to us in every kind of circumstance—families going through hard times, congregations rebuilding, communities that lost everything. Whenever we could, we helped, quietly and out of pocket.

We’re a small family business, and there was always more need than we could meet alone. The Sukkah Foundation is how we change that—formalizing what we’ve done all along, and making it something the whole community can be part of.

Why It Matters

A sukkah is an invitation.

Sukkot is the most communal holiday Judaism has. A sukkah isn’t just a structure—it’s friends and family around a table outside, neighbors wandering over, kids hanging decorations. The Sukkah Foundation makes sure cost is never the reason a family sits out the most joyful week on the Jewish calendar.

Gather

A place to share meals with family, friends, and neighbors through all seven days of the holiday.

Belong

A reconnection with identity and tradition, in the season built for joy and gratitude.

Celebrate

The chance to keep a 3,000-year-old tradition alive, no matter a family’s circumstances.

How It Works

Your gift, doing more.

Tax-deductible

The Foundation operates under the fiscal sponsorship of UpStart, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, so every donation is tax-deductible.

Every dollar further

Because the Foundation works hand-in-hand with The Sukkah Project®, your donation goes further—built on the same manufacturing and shipping infrastructure we’ve spent thirty years refining.

Direct to families

Funds go toward putting up sukkahs for the families and congregations who need them, wherever they are across the country.

Right Now

Where help is needed

When a family or congregation reaches out with a specific need, we share it here so you can help directly. Most recently, we worked to support a synagogue that lost its building and its sukkah in the Los Angeles wildfires. Check back for current needs—or give today, and your gift goes where it’s needed most.
