Where to Buy a Sukkah Online: A Complete Guide to Finding the Right Sukkah Kit

If you’ve decided it’s time to buy your own sukkah, you’re making a great choice. Owning a sukkah kit means no more borrowing, no more renting, and no more scrambling to build something from scratch every year. But if you’ve started shopping around online, you’ve probably noticed that the options can be overwhelming—and it’s hard to tell what’s actually worth your money.

This guide will walk you through what to look for when buying a sukkah online, the most common mistakes people make, and how to find a kit that will last you for years (not just one season).

What to Look for When Buying a Sukkah Kit Online

Not all sukkah kits are created equal, and unfortunately, many online sellers make it hard to figure out what you’re actually getting. Here are the key things to evaluate before you buy.

Construction and Materials

Galvanized steel fittings on a Sukkah Project tubular sukkah frame

This is where the biggest differences between sukkah kits show up. Most companies selling sukkahs online are importing the same generic, mass-produced kits from overseas and reselling them at a huge markup. These are typically lightweight “snap-together” designs that look fine in photos but struggle in real-world conditions—one gust of wind and you’re chasing poles down the street.

Look for kits built with galvanized steel frames. Galvanized steel is far more stable and weather-resistant than the thin aluminum or plastic connectors used in cheaper snap-style kits. A well-built galvanized steel sukkah should realistically last 10–15 years or more (barring any crazy weather events), which makes the per-year cost remarkably low.

What’s Actually Included

This is a big one. Many sukkah sellers advertise a low sticker price, but once you start adding in the extras you actually need—stakes to anchor it, sandbags for weight, roof poles to support your s’chach—the total climbs quickly. Before comparing prices, make sure you’re comparing apples to apples. A kit that includes all the essentials at a slightly higher price point is almost always a better deal than a “cheaper” kit that nickel-and-dimes you on accessories.

Size Options

Your sukkah needs to fit your space and your celebration. If you’re shopping for a family of four, your needs are very different from a synagogue, university, or JCC hosting a community event. The best sukkah companies offer a wide range of standard sizes plus custom sizing options, rather than forcing you into a one-size-fits-all product.

Assembly

Sukkot prep is stressful enough without needing a toolbox and an engineering degree to put up your sukkah. The best kits are designed for no-tools assembly—meaning you can set the whole thing up with nothing more than your hands. If a kit requires drills, wrenches, a rubber mallet, or specialized hardware, that’s a red flag for long-term usability. You want something your family can put up and take down year after year without dreading the process.

S’chach (Roof Covering)

Most sukkah frame kits don’t include s’chach, which is normal—some people prefer to source their own natural materials. But you’ll want a convenient option for kosher-certified bamboo s’chach mats that fit your frame properly. Look for a seller that offers mats in multiple sizes and with reliable halachic certification (like Star-K or Mehadrin/Badatz certification).

Customer Service

This matters more than you might think. Sukkot comes once a year, and when it does, it comes fast. If you have questions about sizing, need help choosing the right configuration, or—worst case—something arrives damaged or incomplete, you need a company that will actually pick up the phone and help you. Read reviews, check response times, and look for a company that treats customer service as a priority, not an afterthought.

Common Mistakes When Buying a Sukkah Online

A few pitfalls to avoid as you shop:

Buying the cheapest option you can find. A sukkah that falls apart after one or two seasons isn’t saving you money—it’s costing you more in the long run. The sweet spot is a kit that’s built to last at a fair price, not the absolute lowest price tag.

Waiting too long to order. Because Sukkot is such a concentrated buying season, inventory can sell out and shipping timelines get tight as the holiday approaches. Ordering earlier in the season gives you the best selection and the least stress.

Not thinking about storage. Your sukkah will spend about 50 weeks a year in storage. Kits that have high-quality storage bags and break down into manageable pieces make the off-season much easier. Beware of the “included” storage bags—there’s usually a reason they’re free!

So, Where Should You Buy a Sukkah Online?

We’re obviously biased here—we’re The Sukkah Project®, and we’ve been doing this for 30 years. But we think our history speaks for itself.

We design and build our own sukkah kits. Unlike most sukkah companies that import generic pre-fabricated kits from overseas, slap their label on them, and jack up the price, we actually design and build our own product. Our tubular sukkah kits are our own design, built with galvanized steel frames that are engineered for durability and ease of assembly. This is genuinely unique in the market—and it means we can stand behind the quality of every kit we sell.

No tools required. Every one of our tubular sukkah kits assembles by hand. No drills, no wrenches, no frustration. The poles slide into fittings, the walls attach with bungee loops, and the whole thing goes up in about an hour depending on size. Taking it down is just as easy.

Everything you need is in the box. Our kits come with stakes, sandbags, and roof support poles for s’chach included—not as expensive add-ons. When your kit arrives, you have what you need.

16+ standard sizes, plus custom options.

Whether you need a cozy 6×8 sukkah for your family or a massive community sukkah for your synagogue or campus Chabad, we have you covered. Our family-sized sukkahs range from 6×8 up to 12×24, and our big sukkah line goes from 16×16 all the way up to 36×72 and beyond—infinitely expandable in either direction. Need a custom size? We do that too.

Three wall material options.

Choose the right wall material for your climate and preferences: SukkahScreen (a tan mesh fabric, great for warmer climates), Canvas (opaque off-white polyester, popular in cooler weather), or Deluxe (the same canvas, but with closeable mesh windows and a zippered door flap for the most comfort and privacy).

Kosher-certified s’chach mats. We offer bamboo s’chach mats in a wide range of sizes, available with either Star-K or Mehadrin (Badatz) certification. They can be added to any sukkah kit order so everything ships together.

Built to last 15+ years. Our galvanized steel frames don’t rust, bend, or degrade the way cheaper materials do. And if a pole does get damaged down the road (say, from an unexpected storm), individual poles can be replaced easily and affordably.

Real customer service from real people.

We’re a small, dedicated team, and we take customer service seriously. If you call us at 844-4-SUKKOT, a real person will help you figure out the right size, walk you through your order, or solve any problem that comes up. Our customers regularly tell us this is what sets us apart, and we take a lot of pride in it.

Competitive pricing. We don’t play games with inflated prices and fake sales. Our products are priced as low as we can offer them, so you’re always getting our best price—no coupon codes needed. When you compare what’s included in our kits versus the competition, we’re consistently among the best values available.
